Much heat can be lost to the exterior through exterior wall components that are in contact with the ground in particular via thermal bridges. The consequences: The house cools down more rapidly. More heating is required, thus increasing the heating costs. Base insulation, also known as perimeter insulation, can eliminate this energy weak spot in homes over the long-term.
Base insulation boards efficiently insulate the base or ground contact area down to about 30 cm below ground level. They correspond to material class "B1 – schwer entflammbar (flame-retardant)" in accordance with DIN 4102 and are applied using the adhesion method. The thermal insulating composite system (ETICS) has an insulation value to 0.032 W/(m*K) with insulation layer thicknesses up to 300 mm. For the top coat in the base area, Brillux also provides a wide selection of finishing renders, flat facing bricks and ceramic coverings.
Aluminum base profiles are often used as the lower ending of a ETIC system. This should be regarded as critical, however. After all, such profiles made of metal act as a significant thermal bridge on a recessed base insulation. With the development of the ETICS Base Joint Profile 3815, a solution was created for thermal-bridge-free, fast and easy formation of recessed base surfaces.
When using the ETICS Base Joint Profile 3815, the facade surface is usually insulated first, followed by the base surface. This creates an impact-protected, exact and smooth transition between facade and base insulation – without thermal bridge influence. There are different options for mounting the first row of facade insulation boards – including the implementation using the innovative Qju mounting method.
