Facade protection Optimal protection and individual design

Facade paints are not only for design – their main function is to protect the building structure. A robust facade system is only possible if the coating is optimally suited to the relevant substrate. When selecting the correct facade coating, ambient conditions and color specifications also play a role. Do you want to coat a thermally insulated facade in a dark color shade? With SolReflex, Brillux also provides a solution for this: Special color formulas reduce the surfaces' heat build-up – and allow more scope for designing ETIC systems. More information on SolReflex is available under Facade design.

Facade systems

The three Brillux facade systems

We differentiate between three systems depending on the substrate and ambient conditions: The organically bound system offers long-term protection in urban areas and industrial areas with maximum color shade variety and resistance. With the silicone system, the highly water repellent properties and extremely good water-vapor permeability keep facades dry permanently. The silicate system, on the other hand, convinces with highly weather-resistant, water-vapor-permeable coatings on mineral, silicificating substrates.

1. Organically bound system: long-term protection

Facades in congested urban and industrial areas must withstand high levels of stress: aggressive contaminants in the air, as well as wind, cold and rain. The organically bound facade products from Brillux provide protection against all of these. Long-lasting and reliable. The predominantly mineral constituents also make organically bound systems highly resistant to mechanical stress and suitable for universal use.

The advantages:

  • High color shade variety
  • High color stability
  • High mechanical resistance
  • High resistance to aggressive air pollutants
  • Perfect for use in metropolitan and industrial areas

For particularly soiling-resistant coatings, we recommend: the Evoflex technology.

2. Silicone system: Keeps facades dry

Water is one of the main threats to facades. It creates living conditions for algae and fungus. Brickwork may also be damaged by moisture penetration, which results in flaking under the influence of frost. The Brillux silicone system keeps the facade dry – due to its highly water repellent properties and extremely good water-vapor permeability. And the facade also stays clean because dust deposits are washed off by rain.

The advantages:

  • Low soiling tendency
  • Highly water-resistant
  • Excellent water vapor diffusion
  • Effective protection against air pollutants
  • Suitable for universal use

3. Silicate system: for the protection of historic buildings an modern architecture

The silicate system includes a complete product range for mineral substrates; it is highly weather-resistant and water-vapor-permeable – perfect for renovating historic and listed buildings. The system works via the chemical process of silicification on the coating material with the substrate. Its use is therefore restricted to mineral substrates whose the surfaces allow silicification. Thanks to their ecological merits, silicate products are also interesting for modern construction.

The advantages:

  • Complete product range – from the brush-on filler to the finish
  • Water-vapor-permeable and sorption-capable
  • Weather-resistant and silicificating
  • Ideal for use on historic and listed buildings

Evoflex technology

(R)evolution against soiling

Evocryl 200 creates lasting, beautiful facades. With the unique Evoflex technology of the 100 percent pure acrylate facade paint, soiling cannot even adhere to the surface at all. Photocatalysis also helps to break down undesirable organic constituents.

The secret of Evoflex technology lies in the special combination of raw materials: Hard particles protect the soft bonding agent. With Evocryl 200, dirt particles have hardly any opportunity to adhere to the surface of the coating. Conventional acrylic emulsions, on the other hand, contain an organic polymer as a bonding agent.

Although this initially provides good adhesion to different substrates and a uniform surface finish – it also results in thermoplasticity and more rapid soiling of the facade.

The advantages:

  • Minimal tendency to soil due to Evoflex technology
  • Particularly high degree of whiteness
  • Particularly high color shade variety
  • Extremely high color stability
  • Dark color shades for ETICS also possible – thanks to SolReflex

Solution for soiling and discoloration

The main problem in industrial environments or in congested urban areas: Many facades have a tendency towards early discoloration and soiling. The two products Evocryl 200 and Concrete Acryl OS 859 with photo-catalytic self-cleaning counteract this: Organic substances such as dust and soot particles are chemically broken down – and facades look new longer.

How does photocatalysis work?

Sunlight releases electrons in the titanium dioxide pigment in the paint. These particles with a negative electrical charge accelerate the reduction and oxidation of the organic deposits on the surface of the coating: The dirt particles are broken down.

By the way: The catalytic converter in a car works in a similar manner. It breaks down toxic exhaust gases into harmless end products. Thanks to Evocryl 200 or Concrete Acryl OS 859, this decompositon process occurs repeatedly, also on coated facades – with no reduction in the effect

Protect against algal and fungal infestation

Successful against algal and fungal infestation

Algae and fungi are some of the hardiest living beings on earth. All they need is moisture and air to spread over a surface – even on stone, plastic, wood or glass. Also on facades they are a nuisance for home owners. Successful countermeasures: Brillux Protect and Brillux Hybrid Protect.

Successful against algal and fungal infestation

Protect: All-round protection for any substrate

Brillux Protect is a unique, systematic protection concept against algal and fungal infestation – in all color shades and for all substrates, even wood. It provides impressive flexibility and design versatility: Are organic or mineral substrates affected? In light or intense color shades? The suitable material in Protect quality is available for every application. For coating exterior surfaces, you have the following options: Both our standard and Protect products create a high level of resistance to algal and fungal infestation with passive film protection.

Hybrid Protect: double protection against algae and fungi

Hybrid Protect provides natural protection against algae and fungi – with interlinked modes of action: the nutrient-free coating film in conjunction with the physically optimized water balance. Thanks to novel procedures, raw materials can be checked for nutrient content before they are used in facade paints and formula components can be classified: as prone to settlement and nutrient-rich or settlement-resistant and free from nutrients. This selection enables formulas to be created that do not provide a nutritive substrate for algae and fungus.

Facades dry significantly faster

The physically optimized water balance of the Hybrid Protect products transports moisture quickly away from the coating surface: This open-pored facade protection allows water to seep into the substrate. The hydrophilic coating surface also prevents water drops from forming. There is no water film left that could act as a basis for algal growth.

Roof paint

The roof paint for attractive coatings

If a roof is getting on in years, the question of a visual upgrade quickly arises. But does it always have to be new roofing? No, because with Tec-Up 22, you can easily generate appealing surfaces on undamaged roof surfaces. Aside from appearance, the Brillux roof paint has technical advantages such as long-lasting weather and color shade resistance.

The pure acrylic paint Tec-Up 22 produces robust surfaces. It offers both excellent stability and very good edge coverage at the same time.

Before / after

Can be used on a wide variety of sloped roof surfaces

Tec-Up 22 is suitable for coating sloped roof surfaces and covers on numerous intact substrates. These are some examples:

  • Weathered concrete roof tiles
  • Asbestos-free fiber-cement sheets
  • Factory-coated and/or galvanized trapezoidal sheets
