Classification of titanium dioxide powder as "potentially carcinogenic"

With effect from 1 October 2021, the Eu Commission has declared that the white pigment titanium dioxide should be classified as "a material suspected of having a carcinogenic effect in humans" – contrary to the majority of expert opinions from member states. There is also criticism from the Verband der deutschen Lack- und Druckfarbenindustrie (German association for the painting and printing ink industry).

Titanium dioxide is a very important material used in a range of industries, including in cosmetics, toothpaste and chewing gum. The material is also used to produce paints and varnishes, among other things, at Brillux.

As a responsible company, Brillux guarantees that its employees are already handling titanium dioxide and other powder substances in a safe manner by adhering to dust limits and statutory health and safety standards.

For Brillux customers, there are no changes relating to the new obligation for warning labels when processing products. As usual, you should continue to adhere to the usual occupational health and safety measures (professional work clothes, respiratory masks during spray application, etc.).
