At the House of James in Meran, Michael Hochkofler and Christof Fauster didn’t smooth over their differences – they wove them together. One loves earthy tranquility, the other bold statements. And somewhere in between, something else emerged: a shared style, “colorful and pastel”, that doesn’t need an explanation, it simply works.

“Our tastes became one in here.”
Michael and Christof
“Friends and visitors tell us that it makes them want bright colors too all of a sudden. In general, we are in favor of more color and diversity,” says Christof. This building shows: rooms can be loud. They can show attitude.
Many visitors leave feeling inspired to use more bold colors at home. Not necessarily louder – but more honest. More personal. More “me”.
This building shows: courage doesn’t come from extremes, but from confidence. Confidence in your own taste. And sometimes in someone else’s taste.
It’s nice to finally be home. Let us show you what it can look like. It’s time to get started!
On the ground floor and first floor, Michael and Christof open their showrooms for hotel supplies – from box spring beds to branded bathrobes. They aren’t showrooms in the traditional sense, but immersive atmospheres. James – the name is inspired by the typical image of the British butler James, known from the classic “Dinner for One”.
Bright stripes meet calm surfaces. Bold colors are complemented by warm shades. Rooms appear vibrant without being loud. Bold, but not overwhelming.
The HOJ Club, the in-house marketing agency, is located on the second floor. HOJ, based on the South Tyrolean “Hoi” (hello) and abbreviation for House of James. A pistachio-green conference room, a pink kitchen area, underlined by stylish furniture and cool neon lighting: it was important for the two men to make the offices comfortable and warm for their staff.
Michael lives at the very top with his wife and young daughter. Private yet embedded within the overall concept of the building. Here, living and working blend into a way of life: open, airy, accessible.

The House of James is more than just a home. It’s a place that brings together different aspects of life. Rather unassuming from the outside, it opens up a whole new world inside. “Gray mouse outside, parrot inside,” says Christof. Before the rooms felt like they do today, Michael and Christof tried a lot of different things. They held color shades side by side, tried out combinations, checked moods. They received in-depth advice in the Brillux branch right next door and searched until every wall had found its role in the House of James show. Around 20 different shades of pink were mixed in the branch and tested by the painter. The executing company was able to combine the individual wishes of the two business partners and bring them skilfully to life with high-quality professional products. And: the stripes on the walls are painted, not wallpapered. Every line is deliberately defined. Each color is part of a dialog between two tastes that didn’t want to lose themselves – but instead create something shared.
