Matthias is on the road a lot. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with his own practice in Koblenz, he actually lives in Bonn – but once a week he sleeps in his small second apartment above the roofs of the city. 40 square meters, an old building with sloping walls, charming corners and a striking oriel window that captures the light of the city. A place to unwind, relax, take a breather between surgeries, consultations and commuting.

“I would never have done this without my painter. I wouldn’t have dared.”

Entrance area & kitchen
In the entrance area, a strong teal shade makes a great impression and immediately sets the tone for the apartment’s color design. The kitchen now glows in an intense yellow that exudes energy in the morning and warmth in the evening. It’s a shade that radiates self-confidence and makes the room seem bigger because it creates depth rather than flatness.
Living, working and sleeping area
In the combined living, working and sleeping area, Matthias and his painter opted for a harmonious interplay of warm greige tones. Matt surfaces, soft transitions, subtle nuances – an atmosphere that is modern and structured and matches the selected designer pieces in the home. Just the balance Matthias needs after a long day of surgery.

And then there’s the oriel window – the heart of the apartment. An architectural gift that demands attention for its character. Instead of integrating it into the rest of the wall paints, it was deliberately given a contrasting color. The deep, elegant blue acts as a frame for the view and automatically directs the eye to the curve. It’s a place where Matthias sits in the evening, working and reflecting on his day.

As curated as the color shades
The color concept is perfectly complemented by high-end interior design pieces: USM shelves in muted green tones, Italian designer armchairs, colorful Vitra chairs, selected lights and subtle accents like the yellow light switch on a dark wall – a bold contrast with playful elegance.

Every time he drives to Koblenz, turns the key and opens the door, it feels big despite only being a few square meters in size. Personal. Well thought-out. Modern. A place to live – even if he only sleeps there once a week.
