Eight new districts grew around the Frauenkirche on the Neumarkt Square in Dresden – all based on a historical model. The reconstruction of the Neumarkt creates an inviting ambiance. The client V.V.K. zu Dresden took just as much care with the color design for the facade as with the restoration of the baroque stucco elements, sandstone decorations and many other structural details – for two important reasons. Firstly, the exterior color design is an key stylistic tool that was extremely important in the baroque era. Secondly, color as a design tool is perfect for linking the historically reconstructed buildings with the new buildings to create a harmonious overall appearance. In close cooperation with the historical preservation authority, a color concept was created, with Matthias Peikert, responsible architect at V.V.K. zu Dresden, with support from the Brillux color studio Leipzig – with color designs and extensive sampling. The three buildings in the Salzgasse – the two new buildings and the north facade of the historic landmark building “Haus zum Schwan” – are joined together by three staged variations of green in the three main facade colors. The three facades also share a structuring, green-beige color shade and a chocolate brown nuance for the window and door coatings on the street level – a repetition that is found in the entire quad. The three facade fronts towards the Frauenkirche were also designed in up to five Brillux Scala color shades to a high level of detail and based on the historical model. Here, three different color families – green, light gray brown and yellow – create a distinction between the three heavily decorated and structured buildings. Around the corner, moving in to Rampische Straße, the color concept achieves an exciting and harmonious overall effect on the four main buildings through the use of yellow, olive, terracotta and line green nuances as dominant facade colors. The company Heinrich Schmid from Radeberg was commissioned to carry out the painting work on the facade. With meticulous attention to detail and with up to eight highly qualified employees, the company worked to implement the demanding requirements on the buildings for almost an entire year, from 2007 to 2008. The Brillux Silicone Facade Paint 918 used is technically equipped to meet all the demands of the 21st century. Among other things, the coating offers a high weather resistance, low soiling tendency and lasting protection against aggressive air pollutants – an important criteria in inner-city locations in particular. High quality Brillux materials were also used in the interior of the “Haus zum Schwan” building, which currently houses a hotel, shops and offices. KADUR Raumidee from Dresden applied glass fabric and Rapid Nonwoven and designed prestigious areas with Creativ Algantico 70, a particularly easy to apply lime-based decorative filler material with a character similar to marble.
