Is two-dimensionality the limit for paintings? GRACO GmbH & Co. KG from Berlin, certainly didn’t see it that way. With a nod to the trompe-l’œil (from French, “deceive the eye”) illusionistic painting was used, to enhance construction features and architectural styles by means of tricks of perspective. In Senftenberg, two modernized prefabricated construction buildings were brought back to life with a futuristic, cubist decor in fresh blue and green tones – a homage to the crystal clear waters of the nearby Senftenberg Lake and the future of the region as a popular recreational area.

Skillfully crafted, the facade image suggests the depth and body on the surface, and creates a contrast in the rest of the environment. The design of the 3D illusion painting was not supposed to cover up the original character of the building, but rather make its special features visible again. The design distracts away from the prefabricated construction and draws the eye to the spatial concept. The implement the 3D look in Senftenberg, on the basis of the real dimensions, a flexible system was developed to precisely transfer the design to the facade. With its new image, the facade holds its own, successfully, in a wonderfully contrasting way, as opposed to the former insignificance.
