The high-rise building as a representative way of condensed living has been controversial forever. If it also happens to come from an era which was driven by thoughts of technical innovation, using serial production and basic construction techniques, like many pieces of “expressionless living concrete silo architecture”, then most would only call for “demolition!”.

But those who not only wish to retain such a building, but even want to reestablish it as a contemporary form of living and reemphasize its thoroughly attractive properties, need courage and conviction. Courage to fight against prejudices, conviction, to take the right measures. How successful a residential property is, ultimately always depends on the well-being of its inhabitants. With architecture as in life, the most important thing is often the first impression. Beauty is not the same as taste, which can be argued over endlessly – beauty arises from “harmony” and “symmetry” and creates a pleasant sense of well-being in all of us.

It is therefore right that the power of color is put into play in this example, choosing a new, harmonious look. Deliberately examining the property is therefore an essential part of appropriate application of new colors. With the necessary degree of respect for the origin of the building, stemming from a time of industrial architecture, the green tones highlight the logic behind the construction and interrupt the monotony of serial repetition. The impressive height and the associated dramatic dimensions were carefully broken into ever smaller, manageable color sections using the varying balcony designs, and therefore create a sense of orientation, right to the top of the building. The subtle green, in all its nuances, also manages to integrate the building into its scenic surroundings and almost establishes a visual sense of harmony and calm.

The new color concept of the renovated building, in different shades of green, has managed to free the 24-floor high-rise building complex from its former monotony, and to communicate: Here it is possible to live harmoniously and contemporarily.
