Thermal insulation and facade design

Interesting facts about insulation

What you need to know

Want to renew your facade? That’s a great opportunity for an energy-efficient renovation! If you want to redesign your facade, you should consider thermal insulation at the same time. This will reduce your heating costs and emissions. So, seek professional advice and incorporate thermal insulation directly into your facade renovation. Specialist companies that rely on Brillux products are the go-to experts when it comes to thermal insulation.

Thermal insulation: in a nutshell

When it comes to thermal insulation, we talk about an “external thermal insulation composite system”, or ETICS for short. A system of different, coordinated components that vary depending on the substrate and in terms of structural and building law requirements as well as the choice of insulation material.
The most commonly used insulation materials are EPS (“styrofoam”), PUR or mineral wool. Your local specialist company will recommend the right ETIC system for the building in question.

Why use thermal insulation at all?

We have listed the advantages for you in a nutshell.

Important for your planning: don’t forget the basement ceiling and attic

Old buildings often still feel drafty even with new windows; the rooms do not retain heat well, forcing residents to turn up the heat. This may be because of the basement ceiling and attic! You should also consider insulation here.

Retrofitting your attic

Roofs are usually well insulated already thanks to insulation between rafters. However, the floor is often ignored. If the floor in the attic is uninsulated, the warm air will rise up to under the roof, requiring continuous reheating from below. Retrofitting is possible here – and can reduce your heating costs at the same time.

Basement ceiling insulation

The same principle applies to the basement, but in reverse. Instead of above the floor, the insulation boards are installed directly on the ceiling area from below. This measure keeps the cold out and reduces the need to heat the ground floor. Practical: both types of work are much cheaper and quicker to complete than most other insulation measures in and around the house.
