Reference project: Coppenrath Innovation Center, Osnabrück
The conversion of the historic roundhouse into the Coppenrath Innovation Center in Osnabrück has created an inspiring venue for innovative work and events. The house-in-house principle with two-story wooden modules makes optimum use of the large hall structure. Existing and new elements merge to create a flexible spatial landscape. Stairwells encourage movement and interaction. The central “innovatorium” can accommodate up to 400 people.
The interior design is brought to life by the contrast between warm wood and untreated concrete surfaces. Exposed gray concrete coatings on railings and ceilings create subtle accents – they were implemented using the resistantandcoatings. Glazes, woodstains and light surfaces – created with Brillux emulsions – enhance the homey character. The solid wood modules are modular, sustainable and resource-saving and enable flexible use with minimal impact on the existing building.
The project shows how interior design can define an identity. Material, color and spatial structure connect the past with the future. The location is inviting, versatile and creative – a powerful stimulus for the new Lokviertel district in Osnabrück.
The design of the central, multi-purpose event hall is outstanding. The cathedral-like central building houses a two-story venue that accommodates public events for up to 400 people.
The Coppenrath Innovation Center is located on the site of the former freight yard.
After years of lying dormant, this area is now generating momentum for the entire city of Osnabrück.
