Just like cat or dog hair or dust mite excrement mold can trigger allergies and even respiratory organ disease in some highly sensitive people.
In order to minimize the risk of disease caused by mold infestation, it is particularly important to identify and eliminate the cause once it is detected.
Prevention: Avoid mold infestation with proper ventilation and heating
These include corners, wall surfaces behind cabinets or curtains, non-insulated exterior walls, exterior wall corners, transitions from exterior wall to room ceiling and window lintels as so-called thermal bridges.
While loose window joints used to provide permanent ventilation, modern tight-joint windows prevent expensive heat and humidity from escaping. Window panes have also been developed and improved. In the past single panes were used which caused cold window surfaces where condensation formed which was transported to the exterior via the typical condensation water collection channel and a small tube. In frosty temperatures the condensation water turned to ice, which also reduced the moisture content of the air. Modern windows with typically double or even triple insulation glazing no longer act as condensation water separators. For this reason it is very important today to open windows regularly to provide proper ventilation and discharge humidity.
Repair: The cause of mold infestation must be eliminated
While minor mold infestation (on surface only, < 0.5 m²) can be disinfected using 70% alcohol or sodium hypochlorite bleach to prevent further growth, any repair work beyond that should only be carried out by expert service providers.

- penetrating rainwater (leaking roofs, cracks in brickwork, improper facade plaster, defective gutters/downpipes)
